Abstract

One of the important pieces of equipment in the power distribution and transmission network is the dry-type transformer. Thus, optimizing construction and operation costs in dry-type transformers is important. At the same power, dry-type transformers weigh less than oil transformers and are also non-flammable. Dry-type transformers do not produce pollution because they do not require oil replacement. Currently, in most gas-fired power plants, dry-type transformers are used to supply electricity for the power plant's internal needs and the rotor excitation system of power plant generators. In this paper, unlike previous research, aside from the transformer insulation and the transformer housing, almost all parameters involved in the optimal design of the transformer have been considered, and the transformer construction and losses are evaluated at the same time. Therefore, the structures of two dry-type transformers are optimized and the minimum losses of the transformers are calculated. Accordingly, the firefly optimization algorithm is used to minimize the transformer weight and losses and to improve the other characteristics of the transformer. On the other hand, the firefly algorithm (FA) results are compared with the results of the metaheuristic particle swarm and grey wolf optimization algorithms to examine and validate the outputs of the design.
