The increment integration of renewable distributed energies means the desired operation of the electric power system will significantly depend on the performance of primary energy. In this order, an integrated approach for mutual interaction between the electricity and natural gas systems has been considered for the purpose of ensuring optimal energy exchanging between the electric power system and the natural gas network. We propose a scenario based optimal operation approach to optimize the operation of integrated power and gas systems (IPGS). Regarding the unpredictable nature of wind speed and solar radiation as well as uncertain load demand, random scenarios are generated by a normal probability density function. Then, Latin hypercube sampling is applied to realize the stochastic framework of IPGS operation. The proposed model minimizes the operation cost of conventional power system generators and gas wells over a 24 h operation horizon. In addition, the conditional value-at-risk is utilized to manage financial risks and uncertainties due to the operation cost-minimizing in the proposed IPGS optimal operation problem. The proposed integrated operating approach is applied to a 24-Bus power system with renewable resources of a photovoltaic, wind turbine, energy storage, with a 7-node natural gas network and two gas wells.

Ships play the major role in bulk transportation and they need their special energy system. This paper proposes a stochastic programing method for optimal sizing of a hybrid ship power system with energy storage system (ESS), photovoltaic power (PV) and diesel generator. To account for uncertainties, in this study a two-stage stochastic mixed-integer non-linear programing is used to model the optimal design problem of hybrid system for ships. The uncertainty of the hourly global solar irradiation and its effect on the output power of the PV system is taken into account. The probability density function of the global solar radiation follows a normal distribution. The Monte Carlo sampling approach is used to generate the scenarios with a specified probability and a proper scenario reduction method is used to decrease the computational burden of problem. Three cases are studied and the results are presented and compared.

This paper investigates the robust decentralized nonlinear control of power flow in a power system using a new configuration of UPFC. This structure comprises two shunt converters and one series capacitor called as hybrid power flow controller (HPFC). A controller is designed via control Lyapunov function (CLF) and adaptive observer to surmount the problems of stability such as tracking desired references, robustness against uncertainties, rejecting the disturbances, and remote data estimation. The suggested control scheme is decentralized using adaptive observer to estimate the non-local varying parameters of the system. Stability of the closed loop system is proved mathematically using Lyapunov stability theorem. Performance of the proposed finite-time controller (FT-C) is compared to another suggested exponentially convergent nonlinear controller (ECN-C) and a conventional PI controller (PI-C). Settling time of the state variables are diminished to a known little time by FT-C in comparison with ECN-C and PI-C. Simulation results are given to validate the proposed controllers. Effects of model uncertainties such as parameter variation in the transmission line and the converters are studied and properly compensated by the proposed controllers. The impact of the control gain and the communication time-delay is shown using the Bode diagram analysis.

When a distribution network consisting of Distributed Generations (DGs) is disconnected from upstream network, the system may be exposed to severe power imbalance. In order to prevent the damage of power plants, frequency relays operate and remove DGs from the network. In contrast to traditional methods, the main objective in new methods is to keep DG units in service in the islanded distribution system. Under-Frequency Load Shedding (UFLS) is one of the most important protection systems, which is the last chance for avoiding a system blackout following severe disturbance. This paper dealt with an adaptive UFLS method and considered the priority of loads to be shed, depending on the intensity of event, and loads look up table built by Rate of Change of Frequency of Loads (ROCOFL) indices based on the frequency of centre of inertia (fCOI). Different loads were shed depending on the event type diagnosed by measuring the initial Rate of Change of Frequency (ROCOF) in the method. The proposed UFLS method can stabilize the frequency of the distribution system in islanding mode by shedding sufficient loads. The simulation results confirmed the advantages of the methods in comparison to other proposed algorithms.
